Corn in the Making

Corn is growing beautifully in the garden. The stalks aren't as tall as I thought they would be, but obviously they have pollinated and beautiful baby corns are growing out of the corners of the stalk.

We have deer that roam these areas, but so far, they haven't disturbed the garden. These have been growing peacefully and without any injuries. I'm so excited! I have never tasted fresh corn from the garden.

They say that corn tastes best if boiled within 30 minutes of harvesting.

Only a few weeks left to go! Yay!

You are going to love fresh corn. It taste nothing at all like the stale corn you get in the market. IT has a creamy, sweet taste. I can taste it now.

I just stumbled onto your blog from Eve at Gulfcoast gardening. You obviously have a really green thumb. Everthing looked so fresh!

DP ~ There is NOTHING like fresh from the garden corn. I grew up on a farm and we had fresh sweet corn practically every night once it was ready. And yes, we would put the pot on to boil and go pick the corn. It's been so long since I've had corn that good.

Fresh corn! Yum! And people tend to sell their stalks for Halloween decorations! Cute tied around mailboxes.

Eve-you're making me hungry and impatient for my corn!

Susie-Welcome to the blog! Thanks for visiting (and thanks Eve for the link). Thank you for your comment. My dad has a green thumb, and I'm learning a lot from him.

Cindy-Your childhood sounds wonderful. What a lovely image. yum. I'm so excited about the corn.

Dawn-What's a cool idea. Do I need to sun dry the stalks, so they get that cool yellow and brown color that you see at Halloween?

Skeeter-I love food sold at roadside stands. They always taste 100 times better than what you can get at the store. Supporting the local farmers is also such a great feeling. There aren't many of them anymore.

Tina-I sent you an email. :-)

You're going to love the fresh corn. Tastes so much better than the store bought stuff. I've got to figure out a way to grow corn in containers :)

Mmmm ... my dad always grew corn in the garden and it was sooooo good! It's great boiled, but my favorite way is to roast them on the bbq!

I've never had fresh corn from the garden either - maybe my neighbor will let me try some of hers when they harvest it - now I wish I'd done corn! :)

Hi John, LoL, if you ever figure out how to grow corn in containers. Let me know. I'd love to try it as well. Maybe you just plant them in big containers and line them up side-by-side, and maybe that will work. haha. ;-)

Hi Lacey, Everyone is making me want to harvest my corn soo badly. I'm going to wait a few more weeks so they grow bigger, and then I'm going to boil them or grill them. Yum. So excited and hungry. lol.

Hi plantgirl, yes, so go ask your neighbor for corn. trade veggies and let me know what you think. How's your baby doing?

Hi dp. You haven't tasted anything till you eat fresh corn. It is sooo good. How I tell if it's ready is pull a shuck back a little to see the kernels of corn, push your thumb nail into the kernel--if it squirts out the milk from the kernel it is ready. If you wait too long it will get tough. Not easily eaten at that point. Good luck & let us know how you think it is after you try it.
I sure would like to try the mint you were talking about. I like to try different things. I guess old age does that.
