Hi Everyone, I hope you had a great weekend.
I wanted to update you on my green bean plant. It has done remarkable well, and it is still producing. Some of the leaves are getting a little brown, but there are tons of new blooms and baby beans on all the plants. I've gotten an amazing harvest from my two rows of beans this summer. I don't know how much longer they have, but I am just enjoying my time left.
Next summer, beans will definitely be on my list to plant. I will buy the beans that grow up. The bean variety I bought this year was the bushy kind. So cucumbers and beans have been extremely successful in my garden.

I love the graceful look of the blooms. It's so dainty and precious. Their white color screams more baby beans to come.

I didn't do much research on beans before I planted them. I put one row in a sunny area, and the other row was in shade. By far, the beans in the shade have been the best producer. The ones in the sun have also produced beautiful beans, but the shaded beans produce much more. Next year, I will do several rows of beans in the shade.

Mostly, I've been eating lots of green bean stir-fry with white rice. Green beans are always on my family's grocery list, and this summer, that's one thing we've been able to save money on. The seed packet, which cost only a few dollars, has saved us lots of money. =)
What are some of the best producers in your garden?

That is a nice looking pile of beans. My best producers are probably zucchini, cucumbers and beans.
Wow, those are beautiful beans! It's good to know they produced more in shade.
I have never had beans in a stir fry, I will have to try this. What all do you added when using beans in your stir fry?
Next year I want to grow a combination of pole and bush beans. I think for the most part brush beans will produce first and pole beans will follow.
Your harvest looks yummy. I love beans and they are so easy to grow. They are definitely on my planting list next year too. I'm growing the vining type too. In fact I'm going to utilize the area on the side of my shed & put trellises up for beans. Can't wait, they are a family favorite here too. :)
I didn't know they continued to produce throughout the summer. You must have been very good about keeping them picked.
It is interesting to know. Just a few plants would probably be plenty for me all summer long. Maybe even some to freeze.

They look very good. Mine are still producing but I am very bad on picking them. Tomatoes are the best producer for me. Too too many! Can't give them all away.
Hi DP, your beans are fantastic! I can't believe they are still producing. And also that the ones in shade did better, I would never have guess that. Last year we have so many bean I got sick of them, even after freezing many. This year the harvest was non existent! I always plant pole beans so they don't take up much space and are easier to pick. They have to be picked young so they don't get stringy though but are quite tasty. Our best producers this year were the patio tomatoes, grape and golden gem, and the cucumbers. We made many jars of pickles. The peppers are sill doing well as are the little tomatoes. The basil green globe has done very well also.
Our bean bushes died on us in the drought and heat. Next year I will go with pole beans as I have had better luck with them...
All of the Saints hot peppers did better then anything. The Roma tomatoes did great also and are still producing...
Hello dp
I too would recommend that you try Pole Beans as I think they would suit your style of gardening. I simply inverted an old small tomato cage (stood the large end on the ground) and let the beans grow up it. It worked a treat.
Hi dp, I'm doing pole beans next time, I've always done bush but my dog ate most of them right off the bush!
My peas produced the best although the tomatoes were second. New spot this year, so it might be a whole different story.
That is a wonderful harvest! The plants looks so healthy and the blooms are pretty.
Right now, I still have a few peppers that are producing and I have ripped everything else out.
Cucumbers and beans did very well for me too. I pulled out the cucumber vines but I am still getting a few beans. Yours look really good. I have to save for about three days now, to have a meal.
Peppers, tomatoes, cukes, beans, and in the beginning yellow squash but they fizzled out too soon.
dp,
For a newbie veg gardening you are having great success! Luka's sure getting big!

DP ~ Those beans look great! It surprises me the shade ones did better. Do they get sun part of the day? It's great when you can save money with the garden. Zucchini did the best for me this year.
I'm going to have to try my hand at growing green beans next year.
Your plants look great, and those baby beans are cute.
Green bean stir-fries are excellent, especially when loaded down with sriracha.
I would say our best producers have been our Roma tomato and, well, all our pepper plants pretty much, they've thrived this year.
mmmm yummmy!
Hey DP,
Thanks for posting the pics of the blooms. I was curious to see what they look like. Hopefully mine will produce as well as yours have, it seems like they haven't grow in a couple of weeks.
Great looking beans dp. I'm not surprised that the beans in the shade did better as you were in a drought. Less stress on the shaded ones.
Mine did great this Spring. Nothing else did any good except the banana peppers. Still have loads of them & will till frost kills.
Wow! Lots of beans! My son loves beans. I tried to grow them but I guess I started too early and they didn't do well. I am having now red beans, but they turn green when cooked! They taste good but I wish they kept the color.
Wow What a lotta beans! LOL. I am happy with the swiss chard, cucmbers, my fall lettuce is doing well.
